Para Fiction very much does things on their own terms. The Brighton punk/rap duo channel a vital urgency with an anti-establishment attitude at their core and have already garnered support from the likes of Huw Stephens and shared a stage with JPEGMAFIA and Skinnyman. They released their new single ‘Time Debt’ last Friday ahead of their upcoming new EP.
The duo forms an integral part of the burgeoning underground, DIY scene in their hometown of Brighton, which also includes Sly Fieri, CMPND, Dereck D.A.C, and Verbz all featured below. Comprised of rapper James (Jambo) and producer Jules (Coding Dude) both of them cut their teeth playing in punk bands as teenagers, and this anarchic tenacity and vivacity pulse through everything that Para Fiction embodies.
On their latest single ‘Time Debt’, they “tackle themes of state control and making something of your life, with lyrics urgently exclaiming “we’re all in debt to time”. A pertinent, bold, and uncompromising voice for the disaffected youth, Para Fiction is a name we’ll be hearing a lot more from.
With their new track out now on their own label Parasitic, Para Fiction shares some of the tracks that have influenced them.
Sly Fieri – Fine Line
Fine Line is the debut single of Brighton based artist and Yert member Sly Fieri. Sly is one of the most unique vocalists around so look out for his debut EP “Flameboy Advance” dropping later this summer.
CMPND – Paraphrase Feat. Verbz
Wundrop, Vitamin G and Kemastry are probs the waviest group coming out of Brighton atm. This is the 3rd banger of their EP, make sure you give the rest a listen.
If you want to hear more from Verbz make sure you check out Lessons of Adolescence.
DERECK D.A.C – N.A.S.A.L
Dereck D.A.C is another member of the Yert and features on 3 tracks on our EP. This is our favourite single of his umm.. random shit. The whole tape bangs so definitely check it out.
Show Me The Body – USA LULLABY
Show Me The Body are a hardcore band from New York. We went to see them when they came to London and it was phat!! Definitely need to go see them if you haven’t.
The Fall – Last Orders
Because I used to play this with my mates when I was younger so it’s one of them ones.
‘Time Debt’ is out now on Para Fiction’s label Parasitic.
