We first fell in love with Evripidis and His Tragedies at an excellent Wicked Hag night in Berlin last year. His upbeat yet wistful stories and seemingly effortless piano-work stole the show, filling us with joy and romance. A “synth-pop love song for the age of anxiety”, Evripidis’ new offering, ‘The Reason’, is an analogue dream that takes a humourful look at personal queer struggles.

Complete with a video that celebrates the lockdown lifestyle we all came to embrace earlier this year, it’s a quintessential helping of the Greek, happy-sad gaydom we’ve come to love. With a new direction sparked by the restrictions of home recording, his synth-heavy fifth album is due in early 2021.

Also on this week’s playlist, El Perro Del Mar provides a very chilled soundtrack to the upcoming apocalypse, Sharon Van Etten channels The Jesus and Mary Chain on the hypnotic ‘Let Go’ and Orion provide a gothic, Italian banger with ‘Higher’, well complimented by Mareux‘s cavernous new offering, the excellently named ‘Dance Floor Dolor’. Elsewhere, there’s a real departure for Korean Newyorker, Yaeji, fresh sadcore from Lana Del Rey and – last but not least – a previously unreleased track from The Knife. Not to be missed.
