As the release of their third studio album, self-titled Cub Sport, gets closer, the Brisbane band – partially made up of newly married couple Tim and Sam – have recently gifted us with the second official single from the album, ‘Party Pill’ which expands on the journey Tim experienced as he was falling in love with Sam. We caught up with Tim to get to know them a little better via some quick fire questions.
Cub Sport will be the first album released by the band since members Tim Nelson and Sam Netterfield‘s recent marriage, and delves deep into their experiences of self-discovery, learning self-love, being ‘out’, getting engaged and married, living their truths, as well as navigating and embracing the complex reality of suddenly being very open with who you are with the world.
As the release of their third studio album – the self-titled ‘Cub Sport’ – gets closer, the Brisbane band have recently gifted us with the second official single from the album, ‘Party Pill’.
‘Party Pill’ expands on the journey Tim experienced as he was falling in love with Sam but trying to hide it from himself and everyone around him, to now facing their fears and embracing their love privately and publicly.
We caught up with Tim to get to know him a little better via some quick fire questions and to find out what does (and doesn’t) make him tick…

Three words to describe our/my music
Beautiful, powerful, vibey
Favourite ever film…
Burlesque! It’s a seriously guilty but amazing watch – apart from a couple of seriously transphobic missteps in the script it’s v feel good and cringey in the most beautiful way.
Favourite instagram account…
@pupsport – it’s a fan-run account for our dogs Missy and Evie! It’s especially nice when we’re on tour and there’s content of our bubbas in our feeds.
The best venue I’ve played…
We played at the O2 Forum Kentish Town with Aurora and it was so beautiful!!
The song I can’t listen to…
the very first songs I ever wrote are pretty hard to listen to lol
The worst job I’ve ever had…
I worked as a cleaner at a hotel for couple of weeks. On my trial day my supervisor said he wasn’t sure if I was gonna make the cut.
My favourite meal to cook…
It’s summer right now in Australia and we’ve been making lots of vermicelli bowls which are a real vibe.
If I was in a tribute band it would be…
a Cher covers band
My Favourite word….
Love
If I had a superpower I’d want it to be….
instant healing abilities
If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…
I’ve wanted to play in Paris my whole life. Believing it’ll happen in 2019!
I think you should listen to…
Mallrat! She has a way of breaking your heart and putting it back together all at the same time.
If I could see anyone play live it would be…
Frank Ocean! He’s my number 1 favourite artist – I think I’ll cry for the entire set when I finally get to see him live!
